The Glitz, The Glam …. The Oscars 2015

I love the Oscars! The red carpet, the show, and the gold statue himself I just love award season and the Oscar red carpet is my Superbowl!

This year’s red carpet did not disappoint! Some major trends that I noticed were lots of side parts, a heavy bang, ponytails, short hair, minimal makeup especially for the skin and bold lips.

Here are some of my top picks from the Red Carpet!

Lady Gaga

Not only do I love her Red Carpet look, but her performance was beyond amazing! I LOVE her dress especially with the red gloves. Not many people could pull this look off, but she does and it looks perfect. Her hair is perfection and I love her minimal smokey eye with the red lip.

Jennifer Lopez

I believe Jennifer Lopez is my best friend in my mind, and to me she can do no wrong! Her red carpet look to me is the epitome of glamour! I love her dress and the color against her skin. She makes a ponytail look elegant and classic. I have to admit at first I wasn’t sure if I liked her makeup, but after seeing several photos and her presenting I loved it. I loved the gold and brown smokey eye with the pink glossy lip. She never disappoints and tonight was no exception!

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Jo is by far one of the most beautiful woman in the world and her Oscar look was divine! I loved the color of her dress and her statement necklace. I am loving her hair and I predict this cut to be huge this coming Spring season. It’s a new twist on the whole Miley Cyrus cut from a few seasons ago, and I think its sexy, elegant and edgy all at the same time.

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie was sultry, sexy and perfection on the red carpet last night! I loved her statement necklace and I felt her hair and makeup was minimal, yet just enough for this look. The longer bob is a huge hair trend right now and I am sure I will be seeing a lot pictures of this cut from my clients at the salon. Her skin is flawless!! I love the matte look with the bright red orange look she looks amazing!

Some of my other honorable mentions for best overall look go to Zoe Saldana, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Stone and Kerry Washington.

Who were some of your favorites and/or misses?

As always thank you for reading.. Till next time

xoxo

February Julep Maven Box Review

I got my February Julep Maven box this week and I am loving what is inside.
Julep is a monthly beauty and nail product box subscription. It was founded as a nail parlor in 2007 and today has expanded into beauty brand that focuses on all beauty needs. What I love about Julep is that a portion of the proceeds are donated to organizations that support and empower woman! Some of the charities they have donated to in the past are the Malala Fubd, Girl Up (United Nations Girls Education Fund), and the Washington Anti-Trafficking Response. They also name all their nail polishes after women who inspire them … How amazing is that?? To sign up and get started go to http://www.julep.com and the boxes begin at $20 a month.

This month featured the Afterglow collection!

I received the gorgeous Glow Hightlighting Powder. A perfect shade for not only cheekbones, but as an eyeshadow. In keeping with the glow theme I go the Illume Face & Eye Brightener. Perfect to wear alone or over foundation and for creating fresh and dewy skin! I can’t wait to try both!

In addition I was given five nail polishes a super cute clear with red and pearl glitter to give to friends. I had to pass them along to my nail gurus at the salon!!

Lastly, there is always an inspirational quote in the box that I look forward to reading. This month’s quote is by Edith Wharton, “There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”

I can’t wait to try my new products and review them for you in a later post. For more information about Julep and how to become a Julep Maven go to http://www.julep.com

Danielle Lubin of 10th Story Nails

When I decided to start my own blog I wanted to have the first post to be very special. Fortunately for me, I happen to be friends with one of the most talented nail technicians in the Tri-State area Danielle Lubin. You may have come across her nail art designs while scrolling through Instagram or read about her as a nail artist to watch by the Huffington Post. She has been backstage doing nails for Essie and Kiss Nails for NY Fashion Week and has worked at the League of Lacquer booth at New York Comic Con. But beyond the polish lies a beautiful, intelligent, passionate and extremely talented artist who is just getting started. And as Shakespeare once said “And though she be little, she is fierce!”

Full Name
Danielle Rose Lubin

Hometown
Garwood, NJ

Zodiac Sign
Pisces

What inspired you to become a nail technician?
A lifelong nail biter, I decided to make a change for myself and try to keep my nails neatly manicured.  All my efforts to stop nibbling (and my blooming polish collection) collided with my love of art and color, and before I knew it painting tiny pictures on nails was my number one passion.  In order to (legally) bring my love to the masses, I had to become certified!

How long have you been doing nails?
I’ve been a licensed nail tech for two and a half years, but I’ve been obsessively painting my own nails for about five years.
How do you come up with the name 10th Story Nails?
I love the social aspect of doing nails. By the time I’ve finished decorating your 10th nail, we’ve probably traded at least 10 good stories!
Name some career highlights to date.
This past year has been really exciting!  I worked with Essie and Kiss Nails for several shows at Fashion Week, and my very first nail appeared in print in the December 2014 issue of NAILS Magazine.  For the second year in a row I worked at the League of Lacquer booth at New York Comic Con, and shortly after I was named in Huffington Post as a nail artist to watch.
What are your top three favorite nail polish colors?
Blue, green, and purple! I think jewel tones are timeless.
danielle1What do you think the nail trends will be for Spring 2015? Popular colors?

Marsala is the 2015 Pantone color of the year, and I think it’s going to be very popular on nails too. Nudes and neutrals were on almost every SS15 runway, and I predict they’ll be all over our nails too
What is your favorite nail care product? Or nail must have?
A good cuticle oil is your fingertips’ best friend and will keep your nails hydrated and conditioned for optimal polish or enhancement wear time. I adore the almond cookie scent and moisturizing powers of CND Solar Oil.
danielle2Favorite movie
I love all the Harry Potter movies, it’s too hard to pick just one!

Favorite lipstick
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in “Bauhau5” makes the BEST matte raspberry lip.

What is your holy grail beauty product that you cannot live without?
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in “Caviar Ink” – it’s amazing for a sharp cat eye or as a smudged out base for a smoky eye.

If you could travel anywhere in the world all expenses paid where would you go?
I would travel to Russia to study at one of their advanced nail academies. I don’t take vacations, I take NAILcations.

Any advise for those who are interested in having a career in the nail industry?
Nail art is a fun finishing touch to a great service.  Practice really does make perfect, and pursuing regular education outside of nail school will make you a better technician and artist than you could ever imagine.
